Over 50’s Bingo

From 2012–2014 I volunteered at Bristol’s Centre for the Deaf, working behind the bar every Wednesday afternoon for the over 50’s Bingo Club. The purpose built Centre for the Deaf-Bristol opened on King’s Square in 1979, a not for profit organisation with the aim of alleviating the loneliness experienced by the Deaf/deaf community and to provide a meeting place where people were all the same.

The centre ran into serious difficulties when their core funding was cut by the council in 2008 and due to the city centre location it was unable to support itself and it closed in 2016. The building is now used as a conference and office centre.
